Is it really coming home? We don’t know about football, but popcorn definitely is…

It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for, the Euro 2020 final is nearly here! Whether you’re a football fanatic or you’re just there for the snacks (we don’t blame you), here at Shedquarters we’ve been racking our brains for the best international flavours! Pair your footie night with some yummy gourmet popcorn and you’re already onto a winner. Read on to see our picks from each country who have a chance to make it all the way to the final!

Denmark

Not a team football pundits were expecting in this stage of the competition, but who are we to judge the country who brought us the Smørrebrød? These open sandwiches are a staple of Danish cuisine, and really easy to whip up! Traditional toppings include meats and fish or cheese and spreads, sounds yummy right?

But it doesn’t have to stop there, we’ve got savoury flavours that were made for pairing with a Smørrebrød. Why not check out our Three Cheese popcorn bundle, guaranteed to leave you with a cheesy grin! Goat’s cheese, blue cheese and cheddar cheese are three funky flavour combos the Danes would be proud of!

What’s that you say? You want something sweet for your Sunday night football snacks? Luckily for you Denmark love their sweet summer berry desserts. Rødgrød med fløde, is a traditional Danish red berry pudding served for dessert with whipped cream. Soak the berries in sugar and water -hen heat the mixture up. Easy as pie! Or you could just sweeten the deal with our Berry-licious popcorn - a magical mixture of fruity tart raspberry and indulgent smooth rich dark chocolate, as the Danes would say “lækker!” Delicious!

Italy

The competition favourites, Italy have taken the Euro’s by storm, just as they do with their classic culinary entries too! Pizza! Pasta! Garlic bread! The Italians are almost giving us too many snacking options, but let’s face it, pizzas are the ultimate football snack. Perfect for sharing, and SO MANY topping choices!

Wait, hold up, did you know pizza popcorn is a thing?? We recommend starting with our Say Cheese! Popcorn poured into a resealable bag, and add:

  • ½ tsp. Garlic powder

  • 3 tbsp. Grated parmesan

  • 1 tsp. Oregano

  • Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

  • ¼ chopped pepperoni

Shake it all together and what do you get? PIZZA POPCORN! You’re welcome.

It’s time to introduce some drinks into the mix. Anyone for a glass of prosecco? The most famous of Italian wines, perfect to pop a cork alongside our poppin’ snacks. Prosecco pairs well with sweet flavours, which we have plenty of! Shedquarters recommends our chocolate bundle - Salted CaramelPop n Choc and Cookies and Cream gourmet popcorn, now that’s amore!

Spain

2008 and 2012 champions Spain are looking to clinch back the title of European Champions, but they’re already the champions of snacking in our eyes. Famous for de-POPing-licious Tapas (appetiser) dishes, we’ve made a mouth-watering list of the most popular Spanish delicacies:

  • Patatas bravas and patatas alioli -These are fried potatoes covered in a tasty sauce. Bravas sauce is spicy and alioli is made mainly from olive oil and garlic. Mmmm.

  • Iberian cured ham - This is one of the Spanish products most-liked by tourists and as a tapas is usually served with bread or picos and colines (small dish of crunchy bread typical in Spain). We’re drooling…

  • Olives - Olives are usually served pickled. In fact, pickled items in general are commonly found in tapas. There are also stuffed olives (normally with anchovies or peppers). We’ve got a tasty trick up our sleeve for you with this one! Chop up some olives and sprinkle over our Goats Cheese popcorn for the ultimate savoury football snack! Add some chilli flakes if you’re feeling a little bit spicy.

As well as football, Spain offers some world class beers as well. Estrella, the country’s most famous beer, is a favourite on draft down at your local pub. Did you know that we’ve already got a guide for what popcorn to pair with beer? We’re always thinking ahead here at Shedquarters, you can thank us later. (We’ve also included other drinks if beer isn’t your tipple.)

England

Right, before you start belting out ‘It’s coming home’ (We’ve been singing it all week here at Shedquarters), let’s get your guide to English snacking sorted first. We love a bar snack here in Blighty -  crisps, nuts, pork pies, so why not popcorn? A poppin’ accompaniment to the good old fashioned crisp, we’ve got a classic English favourite, salt and vinegar popcorn!

Do you ever wish there was a sweet version of a bag of peanuts? Of course you do! Our three shed Nut bundle will fill that sweet ‘n’ savoury hole in your tummy! A-maize-ing!

Now that we’ve got the snacks in the bag, let’s get down to the footie! Three lions on the shirt…

We hope our Euro 2020 finals snack guide has tickled your tastebuds and got you in the mood for some football snacks!
